Friends, family and co-workers stopped by the Pierce County Emergency Operations Room Thursday to congratulate Barry Hove upon his retirement. Hove worked full-time at the county as a survey technician since 2000 and prior to that spent 23 years working for Bob Sheffers when the county contracted out its survey services. “I’ve loved every minute of working here,” he said as Thursday was his last day. “…I have had a lot of fun, but I’m ready for retirement.” Hove said the future consists of golfing, fishing or whatever his wife Rita has planned for him. The County also presented Hove a framed Honorary Deputy Surveyor certificate for “…countless years of back-breaking effort while enduring the dangers of bugs, milk trucks, rattle snakes, poison ivy, heavy equipment, extreme heat and cold, impossible terrain, boring co-workers and county surveyors who always think they know best.”
