PRESCOTT--The Prescott Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Board approved the request of adding six part-time positions to the EMS Feb. 21.
They will work no more than 24 hours a week and will supplement the volunteers already on staff, explained Director Bill Dravis.
The idea was born out of necessity, Dravis said. Staffing for the Prescott EMS has decreased over the years from in the 40s five-to-10 years ago to down to 24.
“We have great volunteers,” he said. “Just not as many as we used to be…This had to happen sooner or later.
“The board believes in our volunteers and were adamant about continuing this organization as long as they can.”
Dravis said the hope is to have the part-timers in place by May 1. More than likely, he said, their role on ambulance runs will be as IV technicians.
