Prep Basketball Roundup: Semifinals continue in boys' high school tournament

Wisconsin Sports
-- Randolph will go for a state-record 10th WIAA boys’ high school basketball title tomorrow.

MADISON - Randolph will go for a state-record 10th WIAA boys’ high school basketball title tomorrow.

The Rockets advanced with a 46-to-37 win over Elmwood yesterday in the Division-Five semi-finals in Madison. Randolph broke a tight game open with an 8-2 run in the final four minutes. They’ll play Green Bay Northeast Wisconsin Lutheran for the championship. Lutheran edged Drummond 62-59, as five players scored in double figures for the winners.

In Division 4, defending champion Whitefish Bay Dominican and Auburndale will square off for their crown tomorrow. Dominican eliminated Cuba City 55-47 last night, as Duane Wilson scored 19 points for the winners. Auburndale topped Amherst 49-29, as the Apaches shot a Division-Four record 64-percent from the floor.

Semi-finals will be played today in three other divisions. The D-3 semis are up first. La Crosse Aquinas takes on Little Chute at 9:05, and then Lodi plays East Troy. This afternoon, defending Division 2 champion Onalaska faces Pulaski, and Stoughton goes against Wisconsin Lutheran. Tonight, defending champ Germantown goes for its 55th straight win against Oshkosh North in the Division 1 semifinals. Mukwonago will close out the semis by facing Milwaukee Rufus King.

Wisconsin’s largest girls’ high school basketball division will have a new state champion. Last year’s titlist De Pere lost its sectional opener last night to Kimberly, 50-45. De Pere led the AP’s Division-One rankings for most of the season. The other four returning champions won their sectional contests – New London, Kewaunee, Milwaukee Heritage Christian, and Neillsville which moved up one grouping this year to Division-Three. Thirty-of-the-47 Number-One seeds ended up winning their brackets. All five divisions are down to their final eight. The sectional finals will be played tomorrow, and the winners will meet in Green Bay next week for the state tournament.
