The Pierce County Finance and Personnel Committee approved a variety of items during its monthly meeting Monday.
Among them were transferring of funds to cover 2012 deficits for Library, Personnel and Medical Examiner. Finance Director Julie Brickner explained the deficits for each. Library was $2,217 because a former employee collected unemployment compensation which was not budgeted. Personnel had a shortfall of $5,408 due to additional advertising expenses because of employee turnover. Medical Examiner was $11,701 because of numerous autopsies (14) and additional temporary salaries.
Brickner explained, when the amount of the deficit is less than 10 percent of the total budget, the committee can approve the transfer. If the amount is greater, it has to go to the full county board for action. Therefore, the Medical Examiner deficit will go to the full county board.
The committee also approved eliminating the administrative coordinator from the corporation counsel’s performance evaluation and amending the language regarding appointment of the Great River Road Representative. Regarding the latter, Committee Chairman Jeff Holst explained the statutes have changed regarding appointments, so it now falls back to the governor instead of the county board.
Finally, committee members tabled a request from Dennis Donath of the Mississippi Parkway Commission about the commission asking for $1,500 which would go toward tourism along the Great River Road. Member Dan Reis asked for tabling as members were hearing about this for the first time.
