U men and women hockey teams to play for titles
Minnesota Sports-- By winning Friday both the University of Minnesota men's and women's hockey teams will being playing for titles this evening.

The women's team will play for the WCHA tournament championship after beating Ohio State 5-0 at Ridder Arena. Maryanne Menefee ahd two goals and Hannah Brandt had a a goal an and assist for the U. Gopher goalie Noora Raty made 24 saves. The Gophers outshot the Buckeyes 34-24 and had one power play goal. Minnesota faces North Dakota tonight in the tournament final starting at 7:05 p.m. The winner gets an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The Gopher men's team survived a spirited effort by Bemidji State to win 4-3 at the Sanford Center in Bemidji. After falling behind the Beavers 3-2 the U scored a pair of third period goals from Justin Holt and Nick Bjugstad, the latter coming on a power play of which the Gophers were 2-of-4 for the game. Both of Bjugstad's goal came with the man advantage. Ben Marshall also scored for Minnesota and Gopher goalie Adam Wilcox made 24 saves. Minnesota needs to win tonight and hope St. Cloud State loses to Wisconsin to successfully defend its MacNaughton Cup title from last season.
