Blue's baskets lead Marquette to Big East title

NEW YORK CITY - Marquette’s Vander Blue scored in the final minute of overtime to tie the score, then won the game on another layup. The Golden Eagles edged St. John’s 69-67 to take a share of the Big East title, tied with Georgetown and Louisville.

Marquette had led by nine points with less than two minutes to go, but the Red Storm rallied to tie in regulation. The Eagles had scored the last nine points of the first half, then the first nine points of the second half to claim what appeared to be a comfortable lead. Blue led the Golden Eagles with 16 points. Jamil Wilson added 14 and took down eight rebounds. Phil Green led St. John’s with 20.

The victory was the fourth in a row and sixth in seven games for Marquette. They get a bye into the quarterfinals of the Big East post season tournament. Marquette finishes the regular season with a 23-7 record, 14-4 in conference play. They were picked to finished seventh in a pre-season poll.
