Jared Spurgeon had a goal and assist while Ryan Suter added two helpers as Minnesota won its third in four games. Niklas Backstrom made 25 saves for the win. The victory pushed the Wild into first-place in the NHL Western Conference Northwest Division. Minnesota continues the three-game homestand tomorrow against Anaheim.

Dallas forward Vince Carter posted 22 points and nine rebounds off the bench as the Mavericks mauled the Minnesota Timberwolves 100-77. Dirk Nowitzki tallied 16 points and nine boards for Dallas, which has won three in-a-row. Brandan Wright added 13 points and seven boards off the pine in the victory. Elton Brand helped out with 10 points and 12 boards in the win. Derrick Williams recorded 18 points and nine boards for the T'wolves, who have dropped eight-of-nine. J.J. Barea had 16 points off the bench in defeat against his former team.

Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run homer to lead the Pirates past the Twins 7-4 in Fort Myers. Josh Willingham hit a solo homer for Minnesota, which fell to 9-and-7. Liam Hendricks allowed four runs on three home runs over three innings to suffer the loss. The Twins take on the Rays today in Port Charlotte.

Five Twins pitchers were sent to Minor League camp yesterday. They are all right-handers and include Nick Blackburn, Bryan Augenstein, Alex Meyer, Lester Oliveros, and Esmerling Vasquez. The Twins now have 62 active players in big league camp, including 30 pitchers, nine catchers, 13 infielders and ten outfielders.

The University of Minnesota baseball team beat Western Illinois 5-3 at the Metrodome yesterday to complete a three-game weekend sweep of the Leathernecks. Minnesota's 3-0 win on Friday was highlighted by a nine-inning no-hitter thrown by Tom Windle of Maple Grove. The Gophers host Nebraska-Omaha tomorrow and Wednesday this week, followed by a three-game series against Indiana State beginning on Friday at the Metrodome.

The top-ranked University of Minnesota wrestling team finished second at the Big Ten Championships at the University of Illinois over the weekend. Penn State won the team competition, outdistancing second-place Minnesota by 12 points. Iowa was third, followed by Ohio State and Illinois. The Gophers crowned two league champions including heavyweight Tony Nelson of Cambridge and 149-pounder Dylan Ness of Bloomington.

Matt Kenseth celebrated his 41st birthday with a win in the Kobalt Tools 400 on Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kenseth held off Kasey Kahne to capture his 25th Sprint Cup Series victory and his first with Joe Gibbs Racing. Brad Keselowski finished third, followed by Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards, who won last week at Phoenix. Points leader Jimmie Johnson was sixth, while Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick and Paul Menard rounded out the top-10. Danica Patrick finished 33rd. NASCAR heads to Bristol Motor Speedway next weekend for the Food City 500.

Tiger Woods won the WGC - Cadillac Championship after carding a one-under 71 in Sunday's fourth round. He finished at 19-under-par, two strokes ahead of Steve Stricker at TPC Blue Monster at Doral. Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson and Graeme McDowell each finished in third at minus-14. This is Tiger's 76th career PGA Tour victory, which is second on the all-time list behind Sam Snead's 82 wins. This is also Tiger's 17th career win in the World Golf Championships.
