RIVER FALLS - The first prep track and field meet for Prescott took place Tuesday at the Knowles Center at UW-River Falls.
The New Richmond Indoor Invitational was a non-scored meet but the Cardinals would have finished a good amount of points if they were awarded in both the boys' and girls meets.
Also competing were Somerset, Osceola, St. Croix Falls, Amery along with the host Tigers.
In the girls meet Prescott's Emily Bayer won the 400-meter dash in 1:03.98. She was also a part of the Cardinals' 1600-meter relay team which finished second (along with Kate Kroska, Amanda Murphy and Savanna Stuhl).
Other placewinners for PHS were Stuhl, 7th in the 400; Kroska, sixth in the 400 and seventh in the high jump; Jennifer Kleinschmidt, eighth in the 400 and eighth in the 55-meter hurdles; Amanda Murphy, fifth in the 800-meter run and second in the 1600-meter run; Annika Carlson, seventh in the 800 and sixth in the 1600-meter run; Olivia Rohl, sixth in the long jump and Rebecca Shirley, eighth in the long jump.
PHS had two winners in the boys' meet led by Pat Ballosh's first place in the 200-meter dash in :24.50 and Sam Smith's win the 400-meter dash in :53.71. Ballosh finished second in that event. PHS also won the 1600-meter relay in 3:45.33. On the relay team are Smith, Harry Cutler, Cole Hauenstein and Smith. Hauenstein took first 800-meter run in 2:01.63, setting a meet record. And Nick Jacobsen won the shot put with a toss of 44 feet, eight inches.
Other place winners for the boys were Troy Urman, second in the 1600 and third in the 800; the 3200-meter relay team finished fourth and Garrett Ryan was fifth in the shot put.
Other prep track teams from Pierce County will be involved in meets this week. Ellsworth begins its season tomorrow in the G-E-T Invitational in Winona, Minn. at St. Mary's University while EPC will compete in the Northern Badger Track Classic in Menomoinie this S.aturday
