STANLEY - A police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman who was drunk at the time has resigned from the Stanley police department.
Fifty-eight year old Terry A. Karlen was charged last December in Chippewa County Court. Karlen pleaded not guilty last month. He returns to court to face the fourth-degree sexual assault charge April 16th. Because Karlen worked in law enforcement, local officials have turned the prosecution of the case over to Washington County’s district attorney.
A woman says Karlen agreed to give her a ride home after a night of drinking during the Stanley rodeo, but he took her to a cemetery and groped her. When she objected, she says he left her on the side of the road.
