STILLWATER, Minn. -- Steve Gunderson, Former Wisconsin Congressman and current CEO of the national Council on Foundations in Washington, D.C., will be the keynote speaker at the St. Croix Valley Foundation’s annual Legacy Celebration in Stillwater on June 15. The Council on Foundations is a membership association of some 1,800 grantmaking foundations and corporations throughout the United States.
Prior to joining the Council, Gunderson served as the senior consultant and the managing director of the Washington office of The Greystone Group, a Michigan-based strategic management and communications consulting firm.
The Wisconsin native is noted for serving 16 years in the U.S. Congress and three terms in the Wisconsin State Legislature. He is probably most recognized for his understanding of the emerging workforce challenges facing America. Not only was this his focus when he was in elective office, but he recently served as the leading author of the book “The Jobs Revolution: Changing How America Works.”
Believing that Congress was never meant to be a life career, Gunderson retired from public service in 1996. He serves on the advisory Board of Partner for Surgery, a philanthropic effort bringing surgery to the rural poor of Guatemala. He has served on the boards of Gallaudet University, The Mary Fisher Family AIDS Network, and the Human Rights Campaign. He has also served as president of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean, VA.
The annual Legacy Celebration will be held this year at the Washington County Historic Courthouse in Stillwater, MN. This event is a thank-you to all the generous people in the St. Croix Valley who give of their time and money to make the Valley a wonderful place to live.
The St. Croix Valley Foundation was founded in 1995 to help generous people leave a legacy to their home region. The Foundation has six affiliate foundations: The Hudson Community Fund, the River Falls Community Fund, the Amery Area Community Foundation, the Lower St. Croix Valley Community Foundation, the Stillwater Area Foundation and the Chisago Lakes Area Community Foundation.
