The Western Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking nominations for its 2012 Brave Hearts and Real Heroes awards.

Each year, the Brave Hearts and Real Heroes banquet honors local individuals whose actions demonstrate the potential that is in all of us. They are those people among us who reflect what is best in our community. They have shown courage, kindness, and unselfish character when a friend, family member or stranger faced a life threatening situation; or who have had an extraordinary impact on the community.

Brave Heart nominations include people from the law enforcement, fire and rescue and health care communities.

Real Heroes nominations include: Adult Good Samaritan, Youth Good Samaritan (under age 18), Community Hero, Animal Rescue Hero, Family of Heroes, Workplace Hero, Red Cross Hero of the Year and Hero of a Lifetime (20 years+ of service or good deeds). Nominations may come from any of the Western Wisconsin Chapters 14-counties; Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Pierce, Rush, Sawyer, Trempealeau or Washburn.

Selected Brave Hearts and Real Heroes will be honored at the eighth annual Brave Hearts and Real Heroes Awards Dinner celebration on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, held at Florian Gardens in Eau Claire.

The American Red Cross Western Wisconsin Chapter serves 14-counties in Western Wisconsin by assisting families affected by disaster; helping military families relay emergency communications to their deployed loved ones; and providing lifesaving training programs.
