Pierce County’s Clean Sweep will be from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Solid Waste Recycling Center, 707 N. Maple Street and Hwy. 65 N, in Ellsworth.
St. Croix County's household hazardous waste collections are Friday, Sept. 16, from 1-4 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m,. at the St Croix County Highway Shop, 666 Hwy 12 E in Hudson.
Materials, which are hazardous if improperly handled or disposed of, will be collected, including pesticides, herbicides, solvents, poisons, oil- and lead-based paints, and a host of other common, but potentially dangerous items. Most household hazardous waste will be accepted free of charge.
Businesses and farmers are invited to set up an appointment to bring their materials for collection but must pre-register. Small businesses are encouraged to participate, but will be charged. Farmers can bring up to 500 pounds of waste for free. To pre -register contact 715-386-4675 or 715273-3092 for information and appointment scheduling.
St. Croix County will also host two appliance collections on Saturday, Sept. 17 that are open to county residents. The events will take place at the Town of Richmond Recycling Center located on County Rd A on the north edge of Boardman from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Glenwood City Recycling Center adjacent to the fairgrounds from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Most appliances will be accepted for $11 each. Air conditioners and water softeners (no salt!) cost $16. Cash and check are accepted forms of payment.
