District 200 honors employees

Hastings District 200 held its 27th annual recognition program for its employees May 15. Retiring employees and the employees with years of service were honored.

Wheeler named state’s counselor of the year

When Charlie Black and Ellen Rademacher wrote a letter nominating Rick Wheeler for the counselor of the year award, they described him as a “silly, little, fun-loving guy who seems to know everyone.” They said he always has a smile on his face and that people are drawn to him.

Sky’s the Limit youth gallery is now open

The Orange Dragon Art Gallery, sponsored by the Hastings Prescott Area Art Council (HPAAC), has opened its new youth gallery featuring art from area children. The youth gallery, “Sky’s the Limit,” occupies the back room of the Orange Dragon, located at 122 Orange St.

Hastings residents will remember, honor those who served the country

A new cemetery marker for a Hastings man who was killed in the Battle of Gettysburg in the Civil War will serve as the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend in Hastings. The annual Memorial Day observance is set for Monday, May 27.

Student artwork and writing is showcased May 16

The event began in 2009 with a “What If” grant from the Hastings Public Schools Foundation to celebrate students’ artwork and writing at Kennedy Elementary School. It has continued each year thanks to continued funding from the grant.

Helen Gergen celebrates her milestone 100th birthday

A century well lived … and still going strong. Helen Gergen was born April 10, 1913, to Paul and Emma Endres. She grew up on a farm in rural Hampton with her parents and siblings. This week, she turned 100 years old.
