Allen Jacob Cady was born on February 21, 1931, the son of Ruben Leroy and Harriet Marie (Tollison) Cady, in Red Wing, Minnesota. Allen attended elementary school in Red Wing until the age of 13, and then attended school in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin. Allen was the oldest of six children.
