Jacob Johnson tried out the skating rink near Hillcrest Elementary School Saturday afternoon. Johnson, who’s long been a skater, said he recently quit hockey because it would have meant changing schools for him. The weather later in the weekend covered this region with ice and heavy, wet snow, creating many opportunities for area residents to skate or at least cope with slippery footings.
