David A. Thoen, 64

David A. Thoen, age 64, of Ellsworth, and formerly of River Falls, died Saturday, March 3, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond.

David A. Thoen, age 64, of Ellsworth, and formerly of River Falls, died Saturday, March 3, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond.

David was born the son of George and Agnes (Schorn) Thoen on Feb. 15, 1948, in River Falls. He graduated from River Falls High School with the class of 1966. On Nov. 27, 1968, he was married to Mary Baker. Mary lost her battle with cancer in 2008. He served in the Army from 1968-1970. David worked nearly 24 years for what is now GEA Process Engineering Inc. in Hudson, retiring in 2011. On Oct. 23, 2010, David was married to Karen Kibler.

He enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, and making people laugh. He spent many summers with the River Falls Park and Rec Program managing and playing in softball and volleyball leagues.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Agnes Thoen; wife Mary Thoen; and siblings Ron Thoen, Darwin Thoen, Sharon (Merle) Foss, Gwen Looman, and Janet Rovney.

David is survived by his wife Karen Thoen; children, Jonathan Thoen, Jenifer (Jeremiah) Pinski, and Jessica Thoen; grandchildren, Kylie and Grant Kohl; siblings George (Tootie) Thoen, Thomas (Barb) Thoen, Mike Thoen, Diane Miller, and LeAnn (Donald) Sorenson; sister-in-law Cecile Thoen; brother-in-law Del Looman; stepchildren, Bonnie (Ron) Helstern and Justin (Angelica) Kibler; close friends Dennis (Patricia) Blevins; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in River Falls, with a memory sharing service at 5 p.m. followed by military honors.

Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.

I'm so sorry to see that David has left us. I haven't seen him since he left for the Army so long ago. I remember a good man whom I've never forgotten. God Bless!
