Vernon was born on April 25, 1926, in Pierce County, the son of William and Jennie (Kryzer) Johnson. He attended school through the eighth grade and served his country, in the U.S. Army as an MP during WWII. He married Dorothy Hildebrandt on Oct. 2, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prescott. Vernon farmed in River Falls until his retirement.
Vernon enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and the Green Bay Packers. He had a special relationship with his daughter, Jennifer, and granddaughters, Anna Rose and Maria Mae Jin Mercord, that was indescribable.
Vernon was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church (Big River), River Falls, and Fletcher-Pechacek Am. Legion Post #121, River Falls.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Johnson, River Falls; daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Ronald Mercord, Prescott; granddaughters, Anna Rose (10) and Maria Mae Jin (5), Prescott. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, River Falls. Burial will be at St. Bridget's Cemetery, River Falls. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the Mass on Thursday. Full military honors will be provided by Fletcher-Pechacek Am. Legion Post #121, River Falls.
