Helmer Lavern Myhre, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 4, at his home in Stillwater, Minn.
He was born April 2, 1919, in Hudson, Wis., the son of John and Martina (Sampson) Myhre. He was baptized and confirmed at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls, Wis. He graduated from River Falls High School and attended U.W. Stout. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He and his son Terry owned Globe University for more than 38 years, and he was proud to have helped thousands of students achieve their education goals. Helmer and his loving wife, Betty, lived in Mahtomedi, Minn., for more than 60 years.
He loved traveling around the country in their motor home and spending quality time with his family. He will be remembered as a quick-witted, tender, loving and gentle man, and will be greatly missed.
Helmer is survived by his loving wife, Betty; daughter, Helen (Ron) Handlos, Hudson; son, Terry (Kaye) Myhre, Stillwater; nine grandchildren, Dennis (Dawn) Handlos, Kathy Goodrich, Mark (Marni) Handlos, Lynn (Rollin Thornton) Handlos, John (Kathryn) Myhre, Jeff (Caryn) Myhre, Mindy Myhre, Mike (Kristin) Myhre, Mark Myhre, and 13 great-grandchildren.
His parents; sister, Ruth (Elwood) Eaton; brother, Gordon (Hazel) Myhre; and sister, Myrtle Myhre, preceded him in death.
A private family service for Helmer will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home, 225 S. 3rd St., River Falls, Wis., with family and friends invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 12 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Burial of cremated remains will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls.
