Lorraine Beatrice Schaefer of Hager City died August 30 in her home.
She was born Oct. 27, 1915, in Moorhead, Minn., to George Rasmussen and Alice (Lindquist) Rasmussen. She attended school in Moorhead, graduating from high school in Audubon, Minn. She then attended nursing school at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo, N.D., where she received her RN.
Following work as a nurse in St. Paul, Minn., Bakersville, Calif., and several hospitals in New York City, she married Dufred Schaefer, a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Dufred made the Army a career, retiring with the rank of major in 1960, and Lorraine moved with him to several different postings in California, England, and New York City. The couple then lived in several different places, including rural Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Texas, Arkansas, Red Wing, and finally Hager City. Lorraine continued her vocation as an RN in many of these places. The couple traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Mexico, Europe, and China.
She is survived by her sons, Paul (Trudi) and Gregory (Nancy); grandchildren, Alyssa, Bronwyn, and Joshua; and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Goodhue County Humane Society. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing.
