Robert L. Lecander, age 78, of Elmwood, died Sunday, August 29, 2010, at the Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie.
Bob was born April 6, 1932, in Plum City. He was the son of Vern and Clarice (Soderstrom) Lecander. He grew up in the Lund-Plum City area and graduated from Plum City High School. Bob farmed for a short time on the family farm. He married Gwendolyn Lidgerding on Nov. 10, 1951, at Sabylund Lutheran Church, rural Stockholm. After marriage they moved to St. Paul, where Bob attended the University of Minnesota for agriculture and also worked at 3M. After several years they moved to the Starr Farm in the Township of Weston, Dunn County, where they raised their family farmed for many years, and raised registered Holsteins. They recently became residents of the Welcome Home Assisted Living in Elmwood.
Bob’s hobby was flying; he took lessons and then owned several planes over the years. He even made a landing strip at the farm complete with landing lights. Bob and Gwen took many trips including to Florida, Texas, Minnesota, and Chicago, plus many flights around this area.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gwen; three children: daughter, Kathy Mousel of Menomonie; two sons, Todd (Michelle) of Spring Valley, Barry (Sara) of Cookville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Andrews, Melissa (Jeff) Katuin, Josh (Brooke), Zach, Luke and Isaac Lecander; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Clarice Lecander of Menomonie; a sister, Jean (Earl) Vance of Menomonie; three brothers, Roger (Barb) of Pepin, Ron (Arlene) of Decorah, Iowa, Don (Mary) of Walton, Ky.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Vern; a brother, Lynn; and a son-in-law, Tom Mousel.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Roy Harrisville III officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
