Iona was born on Feb. 23, 1921, the only child of Elmer and Clara (Soller) Hamman. Her parents farmed in the town of Oak Grove and in 1925 they moved to Prescott, where Iona since made her home. She was a 1939 graduate of Prescott High School and later attended business school in St. Paul. Iona was a longtime employee of Pierce County Bank & Trust (M&I).
Iona was an avid traveler. She enjoyed trips throughout the United States and went on several tours to the Holy Land and Egypt as well as to the European countries.
Iona Hamman was an active member of many Prescott civic organizations, serving as treasurer of Pine Glen Cemetery Assn., Prescott Nursing & Rehab. Community Auxiliary, Prescott Library Board, Prescott Area and Pierce County Historical Societies. She also served on the Pierce County Office on Aging. In partnership with Jerald and Colleen Reichert she operated the St. Croix Theater for a few years.
Iona was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Prescott. She was an active, lifelong member, singing in the choir and serving as a Sunday School teacher and supervisor, taking part in Bible study, and she was a member of the Altar Committee and Ladies Aide.
Iona is survived by cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Iona will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Prescott. Rev. Richard Durow will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Glen Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and for 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
