Ethel Ginsbach Gerrish, age 100, of River Falls, Wis., died Sunday, Dec. 4, at Our House Senior Living, River Falls.
Ethel was born March 3, 1911, in Farm Hill, Rock Elm Township, Pierce County, to Jacob and Lenora (Hoyt) Ginsbach. She graduated from Elmwood High School and the rural department of the River Falls Teachers College. She taught rural school for 4 years. She married Hartzell Gerrish on June 27, 1934. They farmed in the Grange Hall area.
Ethel was active in the Ono United Methodist Church and was a member of the Homemakers for over 30 years. She served as county president of the Homemaker Leaders Association from 1948-1950. She was a 4-H leader for 12 years. She received the H.G. Seyforth Award in 1959 for outstanding leadership. Hartzell died in 1971 and Ethel moved to Ellsworth the following year. Ethel was employed at the Pierce County Manor for 14 years, retiring in 1985.
Ethel was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Ellsworth United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her two sons: Samuel (Judy) Gerrish, River Falls; John (Julie) Gerrish, Elk Mound, Wis.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marjorie Miklean, Ellsworth, Wis.; Esther Stubbs, Green Bay, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hartzell; her parents; and brother, Richard Ginsbach.
A memorial service for Ethel will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Rev. Paul Martin will officiate. A private burial will be in the Ono United Methodist Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.

I'm so sorry to read of Ethel's passing, She was a wonderful wonderful lady. I didn't realize she had reached 100. Ethel was in my housekeeping department at Ellsworth care center for several years. We all loved Ethel. Sincerely Rose Bee12/29/2011 1:24 PM
