Matthew J. Collett of the town of Genesee, Wis., died on Friday, Dec. 9, at his home, at the age of 23.

Matthew J. Collett of the town of Genesee, Wis., died on Friday, Dec. 9, at his home, at the age of 23.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1988, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Mark and Diane (nee Wittig) Collett. Matt was currently in his 4th year of college at UW-Milwaukee and worked at Kwik Trip for the past 5 years to help pay for his schooling. He was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church where he most recently helped with teaching religious education over the past few years. He also had been an active member of St. Paul’s Youth of the Spirit (SPYS) where he attended Bible study and helped with extra activities including working with retreat and his peers. Matt was extremely involved in community service. He helped regularly with fish frys, Parents Day Out, and food drives. Matt was always willing to help anyone and volunteered at the Milwaukee Shelter feeding the homeless. He had a passion for landscaping and was an avid runner competing in many triathlons. He was very detail-oriented and loved the holidays and decorating. Matt will always be remembered for his kind, caring, and gentle nature.

He will be forever missed by his parents, Mark and Diane Collett of the town of Genesee; his brother Christopher (Crystal Wallner) Collett of Cottage Grove, Minn.; his maternal grandmother, Helen Wittig of Plum City, and his grandparents Janice and Gerald Bemis of Plum City; his aunts and uncles Janet (the late Duane) Ardolf of Maple Grove, Minn., Karen (Steve) Traynor of Smithville, Mo., Jean (Arnie) Maxwell of Afton, Minn., Gloria Link of River Falls, Rosemary (Rick) Jones of Woodbury, Minn., Doris (Kevin) Weinzirl of River Falls, Steven (Vicki) Wittig of Durand, David (Debbie) Wittig of Plum City, Jerome Wittig of Maiden Rock, Julie (Ray) Martin of Centerville, Minn., Clark (Sue) Collett of Omaha, Neb., Margie (Tom) Collett Danzinger of Plum City, Susie (Terry) Schuh of Oakdale, Minn. He is further survived by many cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Anthony Gerald Collett; maternal grandfather, Joseph Wittig; paternal grandfather, Vernon Collett; and his uncle Roger Wittig.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 10 a.m. until the 12 p.m. funeral Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, S38 W31602 Hwy D, Genesee Depot, WI 53127 (Corner of Hwy 83 & D). Rev. Mark Molling will preside, assisted by Deacon Larry Normann. If desired, memorials are appreciated to St. Paul’s Catholic Church (address above.)
