John W. "Jack" Niebur, age 79, of Plum City, died Thursday, March 22, at his home in Plum City, with his family by his side.
John W. "Jack" Niebur, age 79, of Plum City, died Thursday, March 22, at his home in Plum City, with his family by his side.
Jack was born on April 22, 1932, in St. Bernard, Neb. He was the son of John and Anna (Dohman) Niebur. Jack grew up in Hampton, Minn., and attended St. Mathias School. In 1953, Jack joined the U.S. Army where he served in England and met his wife, Dolly. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1956. Jack married Dolly Kelly on May 3, 1957 in Hampton, Minn. They farmed in the Hampton area until 1966 when they moved to Plum City where they continued to farm and raised their family until his death. His wife, Dolly, passed away in 2009.
Jack's life was filled with family, friends and farming. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and working the land.
Jack is survived by his children, Kevin (Punky) of Plum City and Pam (Mike) Marthaler of Maiden Rock; five grandchildren, Spencer, Rachel (Matt) Bowen, Lucas, Rollie Johnson and Tyler; one great granddaughter, Madison Bowen; four sisters, Marianne (Ray) Nicolai of Hampton, Eddie (Louie) Momchilovich of Sea Gate, Fla., Bernice (Dick) Enders of Golden Valley, Minn., and Elaine Donnelly of Farmington, Minn.; nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolly; five brothers, Earl, Flore, Vernie, Carrol, and Omer Niebur; and his beloved dog, George.
Mass of Christian Burial was 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, at St. John's Catholic Church in Plum City. Rev. Paul G. Czerwonka officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Plum City American Legion Frank Gilles Post #365. Friends were invited to call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
