Richard R. "Dick" Carpenter, age 84 of Red Wing, formerly of Maiden Rock, Wis., died on Aug. 24 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Richard R. "Dick" Carpenter, age 84 of Red Wing, formerly of Maiden Rock, Wis., died on Aug. 24 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Dick was born on Nov. 3, 1927, in Maiden Rock, the son of Ray H. and Ethel (Peterson) Carpenter. He attended grade school and high school in Maiden Rock, graduating in May of 1945.
He was a 1950 graduate of River Falls State Teachers College (N.K.A. UW River Falls) with a bachelor's degree in education. Dick entered the banking profession with his father and worked in various banks in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He retired as vice president of Hiawatha National Bank in Hager City in May 1989. On Aug. 5, 1961, Dick married Elizabeth Seba Anderson.
He was a 60-year member of the Masonic fraternity, holding memberships in Hancock Lodge #229, Ellsworth; Red Wing Lodge #8, Red Wing; Ellsworth Chapter #116 Order of the Eastern Star; Eau Claire Consistory; Zor Shrine, Madison, Wis.; and St. Croix Valley Shrine Club.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; grandson David Wink; and his parents.
He is survived by stepdaughter, Barbara (Ed) Wink of New Brighton, Minn.; stepson, Karl (Jill) Anderson of Rochester, Minn.; daughter, Patricia Dreher of Wyoming, Minn.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Richard will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at First United Methodist Church in Red Wing. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m., at the Hill Funeral Home in Ellsworth. Burial will be at the Maiden Rock Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Wink, Dennis Donath, James Wink, Heather Anderson, Joshua Wink, and William Dorgan.
Memorials are preferred to the First United Methodist Church, Red Wing, and Shriner's Hospitals for Children, Twin Cities, 2025 East River Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55414-3696.
Hill Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Ellsworth is assisting the family with arrangements.
