Peter J. Hince, age 63, of Plum City, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, at his home, after a 3-year battle with cancer.

Peter was born May 5, 1949, at the Plum City Hospital. He was the son of Frank H. and Gloria (Kadinger) Hince and was raised on the family farm until he graduated from Plum City High School in 1967. Peter enlisted and served during Vietnam as an airplane mechanic for the U.S. Air Force from March 6, 1968, to March 3, 1972.

On May 12, 1973, Peter married Yvonne Erickson of Baldwin and shortly thereafter began their life together. Peter spent much of his career as a welder working for companies such as Twin City Barge & Towing ('73-'86), FMC ('86-'92) and other companies in the area such as K-TEK, Neufab, Northern Metal Fab., Empire Bucket, and O.E.M.

Peter was a strong, independent, simple man who strongly believed in God and the importance of family. These are just two lessons of many he instilled in his daughters. He enjoyed being in the woods, the outdoors, being on the family farm where he grew up, fishing at the cabin, and hunting. He is loved and will be missed.

Peter is survived by his wife of 39 years, Yvonne; three daughters, Karen (Bill) Larson of Woodville, Kelly Hince of Bay City, Denise (Jon) Pendergast of Eau Claire; three grandchildren, Keanna, Ella, and Brady Pendergast; his mother, Gloria Hince of Elmwood, formerly of Plum City; a sister, Mary (Frank) Falkofske of Ellsworth; four brothers, Frank Jr. (Dawn) of Bay City, Henry (Dana) of Elmwood, John of Red Wing, Tom (Linda) of Plum City; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Patrick.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at St. John's Catholic Church in Plum City with Rev. Paul Czerwonka officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Plum City American Legion. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
