Arvid L. Johnson, age 83, of Ellsworth, Wis., died suddenly at his home on Thursday, Jan. 3.

Arvid was born on July 18, 1929, in Ellsworth, the son of Clark and Mabel (Gregerson) Johnson. He grew up in Ellsworth and attended the Cudd School through the 8th grade. Arvid served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1953. He married Pearl Lien on Oct. 20, 1956, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Beldenville, Wis. During his working life, he worked at Swifts as a meat cutter, drove truck for Hines Transfer for 26 years, and he spent 17 years at the Office on Aging, Pierce County.
Arvid enjoyed deer hunting, processing deer in the garage, Buick cars, Chevy trucks, red tractors, and most especially spending time at "Green Acres" with his sons. During his retirement, he enjoyed "Pet N Me" at Pike Lake, Amery, spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
Arvid was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Beldenville, and a 58-year member of Kinne-Englehart American Legion Post #204.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pearl M. Johnson, Ellsworth; sons, Brian Johnson, Brad (Carol) Johnson, Barry (Becky) Johnson; grandchildren, Christian (Hannah) Johnson, Darcy (Alex) Melton, Benjamin (Michele) Johnson, Connor Johnson, and Carson Johnson; great-granddaughters, Opal and Adailia Johnson; brothers, Duane (Marion) Johnson and Dennis (Jan) Johnson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Arvid was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Mabel Johnson, and sister, Shirley Ann Gilbertson.
Funeral services for Arvid will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Beldenville. Rev. John Sutherland will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church from 12 p.m. until time of services. Military honors will be provided by the veterans of Kinne-Englehart American Legion Post #204, Ellsworth.
