Elizabeth "Bette" L. (Billard) Volkman, 84, born Nov. 25, 1928 - Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and died Jan. 18, 2013 - Phoenix, Ariz.

Bette was born and raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. After finishing school, she worked for the government in Canada where she met her husband, Rolly, who was serving in the U.S. military. They married in Altoona, Wis., June 12, 1954; from this union came five children.

Bette displayed a strong determination with an even personality in her early married life, overcoming many trials to raise and influence her children with honesty and integrity. Bette never used personal obstacles and family health issues as reasons to alter her values. She worked in various jobs throughout her adult life, retiring from Pierce County. After retiring, Bette moved to Arizona, returning to Wisconsin and visiting siblings in Canada during the summers. She had been a member at Joy Lutheran Church for over 30 years.

A loving family says good-bye to Bette. She is survived and deeply missed by her children: Cindy L. Mayerhofer (husband, John); Michael J. Volkman (wife, Pauline); Rolland C. Volkman (wife, Karen); Ann E. Attarian; and John P. Volkman; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; sisters Dot, Beverly, and Eileen; and brothers Gerald, John, and Raymond.

She was preceded in death by husband Roland C. Volkman; parents Ernest and Alfreda Billard; brothers Gordon, Charles, Art, and Donald; sisters Joan and Ernestine; daughter-in-law Doris Volkman; and son-in-law Bruce Attarian.

Service will be held at Joy Lutheran Church. Prescott, Wis., on Thursday, Jan. 31. Visitation 4-6 p.m.; memorial service 6:30 p.m. Final resting place at Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott.

She was a rock in the shaky world...She was the laughter...She was the love...She was our everything.
