Norman Neil Odden, 73, of Bay City, Wis., died unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, surrounded by his family.

Norman Neil Odden, 73, of Bay City, Wis., died unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, Jan. 25, surrounded by his family.

Norman was born Nov. 23, 1938, in Warrentown, Wis., the son of Alf and Vera (Morrison) Odden. He grew up in the Warrentown and Maiden Rock area. Norm began working at the age of 12, when he began working on a commercial fishing boat on Lake Pepin. He went to school in Maiden Rock until his senior year when he attended and graduated from Plum City High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. On July 2, 1960, Norm was united in marriage to Joan Hofmeister, at the Army Chapel in Fort Leonard, Mo. Norm was employed by Red Wing Shoe for over 37 years.

Norm enjoyed hunting, fishing, berry picking, morel mushroom hunting, reading, drives in the country, and most importantly, spending time with his family, and friends. Norm loved country music, as well as music from the fifties and sixties. He was a member of the Bay City American Legion Post 357.

Norm is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan Odden, of Bay City; three daughters, Kathy Jo (Tony) Huppert of Bay City, Gail Gusa of Bay City, Patricia (Brian) Butenschoen of Red Wing; seven grandchildren, Brooke, Ashton, Cassandra, Whitney, Ashley, Dalton, and Tayler; two great-grandchildren, Shawn and Blaklee; one sister Marie (Richard) Stein of Hastings; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Arnie Odden and B. Dennis Odden.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Eidsvold Lutheran Church, Esdaile, Wis., with Reverend Mary Eide officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and also 1 hour prior to the service at church. Spring burial will be at Maiden Rock Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bay City American Legion. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
