  • Area Century Farm families were recognized Sunday afternoon. The honorees were Ralph and Harold Lindstrom, whose farm dates to 1909, and Don and Audrey Gilbertson, with a farm going back to 1897. Don Gilbertson told an audience assembled for the presentation his great-grandmother on his mother’s side was related to the Hoyers and the Haberstitchs, also on his mother’s side, were among the farm’s founders. His predecessors landed near CTH O and Forestville Road, and settled just east of there. They survived two world wars and the Great Depression. Dedicated Christians, they were charter members of the “brick church” east of Ellsworth. The Gilbertsons have owned their farm for approximately 25 years. Fair Coordinator Ann Webb presented them with a recognition certificate; the Lindstroms weren’t at the presentation.
  • "Horse vs. Horsepower” is how a special event in the horse arena to benefit the American Cancer Society was billed Sunday afternoon. Teams of horses and ATVs had to navigate an obstacle course. At the time of the event, $500 had already been raised toward the cause and an anonymous donor had offered to match the amount.
