River Falls residents Don and Lee Matzek will celebrate their 90th birthdays (180 years!) with a celebration from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the River Falls Golf Club. Friends and family are invited to attend and bring no gifts.

A few of the Singing Stars of the Ellworth Chapter #116 of Order of the Eastern Star helped celebrate Ethel Gerrish’s 100th birthday on March 3. The Stars enjoyed coffee and cake, and had fun talking to her about the last 100 years of her life. Some of her grandchildren and other family members were there to celebrate her birthday. The family of Arnold Roen invites the community to help celebrate Arnold’s 90th birthday from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the American Legion hall, 701 N. Main St. Food and beverages will be provided but the family requests no gifts, as the gift of your presence is all Arnold needs.
The Ellsworth Care Center has shared a little history about Marion Anderson, age 100. Anderson was born on a farm in Ellsworth Township and attended the Freier School and then Ellsworth High School, where she graduated Valedictorian of her class. She lived on a farm most of her life and enjoyed the farm work. She would tell you “Faith in God, hard work, exercise and good food” would be the secret to longevity. Anderson turned 100-years-old on Dec. 9 and is currently residing at the care center.
Martha Jane Funk of Bay City (Esdaile) celebrated her 90th birthday on Sept. 21. Mrs. Funk, the matriarch of Esdaile, will celebrate with an open house at her home given by her six children, 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren this Saturday. The event will showcase “Grandma Great’s” paintings from the past 40 years and she is looking forward to seeing family and friends. Anyone with an original “Jane Funk” painting is invited to bring it with for signing!
Marie Demuth, Ellsworth, spent part of her 94th birthday Monday placing fresh white crosses trimmed with red paper poppies on the graves of deceased members of the American Legion Auxiliary. Placing the crosses has been a pre-Memorial Day tradition for Demuth for five decades. This year her daughter Mary Ann Blodgett (left) of Bull Shoals, Ark., helped with the crosses at St. Francis Cemetery.
Anna Seipel celebrated her 103rd birthday on March 19 at the Heritage of Elmwood with her family and friends. Seipel continues to enjoy playing euchre, listening to music and sharing her sense of humor with others.
PRESCOTT – Friends are invited to stop by the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 2 p.m. Tuesday when Ethel Geister will be honored for her 100th birthday.
