Meerkins joins Teach for America
HAGER CITY—Tera Meerkins, a native of Hager City, has joined Teach for America, the national corps of top college graduates who commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools in low-income communities.
Meerkins is a 2006 graduate of Ellsworth High School, 2010 graduate of UW-Madison and will teach in Greater New Orleans beginning this fall.

Minnesota smokers deal with new Wisconsin smoking ban
Beginning Tuesday, Minnesota smokers can no longer use Wisconsin as their ash tray.
The Badger State smoking ban brings to an end the opportunity for smokers in Minnesota border communities like Red Wing to skip across the border for a cigarette inside a tavern.
