Literacy Day event at the library Sept. 8
Wisconsin Literacy and its member agencies kick off the annual 1200 Tutors in 12 Weeks campaign on International Literacy Day, Wednesday, Sept. 8. Sponsored by Verizon and Alliant Energy Foundation, the campaign aims to recruit and train 1,200 new volunteer literacy tutors across the state.August 31, 2010

Funding brings milestone at local school district
Thanks in part to funding from Operation Roundup, sponsored by Pierce Pepin Cooperative Services based in Ellsworth, the elementary schools in the district now have Smart Boards and projectors in each of their regular classrooms.

Local author Burt Nordstrand has scheduled a book signing Thursday, Aug. 12 in Hudson at Second Street Crossing from 4 to 6 p.m. (Ellsworth, Monday, Aug. 16 at the Holiday store/station). A successful local and regional businessman, Nordstrand took on a book-writing project with his “tell-all” book “Living With the Enemy.”

PV students earn reading medals
On June 4, Prairie View Elementary School held its quarterly Accelerated Reader assembly to recognize students for their reading achievements.
Students were recognized in six categories. Forty students passed 100 percent of the tests they took while they maintained at least an 80 percent comprehension and met the minimum number of points set by their teachers. Six students earned 50 points or more during the quarter.
