Pillowcase donors PressPass

Pillowcase donors From left to right are Jaime Nitz, Brian Early and Dani Augustine. They are part of the High School Volunteer Group participating in the One Million Pillowcase Challenge. They are doing it for ConKerr Cancer, which is a non-profit organization that helps to make children’s stays at hospitals more pleasant. The Volunteer Group will be donating 50 pillowcases to the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital and the St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

5K participants Girls from Prairie View and Hillcrest elementary schools and Ellsworth Middle School participated in the Girls on the Run 5K at Covill Park in Red Wing on May 22. Participants included: Grace Groh, Jasmin Place, Madyson Bignell, Megan Bignell, Olivia Lynner, Gillian Welsch, Katie Runyon, Nicole Hadler, Allison Hadler, Masen Bach, Olivia Bach, Freya Nelson, Ally Peterson and Breanna Flaherty. Volunteer coaches were Jessica Thorson and Laura Harsdorf. Running buddies were: Haley Schmidt, Katie Olson, Maureen Hopkins, John Welsch, John Groh, Nichole Bach, Mae Simpson, Patrick Lynner, Nicole Bach and Melissa Kowalchyk.

Pierce County Sheriff Nancy Hove was the guest speaker and the essay winner and class leadership award from each classroom was named. Mr. Weghorn's class: Kyla Ashmore and Michael Freund.
