The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a red flag warning (fire weather warning) for St. Croix, Pierce and Polk counties, which is in effect until 7 p.m. this evening (Thursday).
Two Wisconsin National Guard units have been put on alert for a possible trip to Iraq or Afghanistan.
Guard officials say the 732nd Combat Support Battalion of Tomah is on alert as well as the 951st Engineering Co., from Rhinelander and Tomahawk.
