-- Lt. Col. Mark Weber, the Rosemount soldier who became an inspiration to many as he battled terminal cancer for nearly three years, died shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, according to a post on his Caringbridge site.
-- Boat traffic on the Saint Croix River is being blocked this morning, until a broken cable can be fixed on the Stillwater Lift Bridge between Houlton Wisconsin and Stillwater Minnesota.

-- A body was pulled yesterday from the Chippewa River in Eau Claire. Police said canoeists spotted what appeared to be a body near the Short Street Bridge around 5:50 p.m.
-- Republican leaders are still confident that the current version of the new budget is basically the one that will pass both houses this week. The state Assembly is scheduled to start debating the two-year, $68-billion package of spending and new policies. They’re expected to take a break tonight before approving the budget tomorrow.
-- A St. Paul market was raided after several people became ill after using drugs purchased there, and Ramsey County Sheriff's officials say one of the overdoses was fatal.
-- Milwaukee Bucks’ shooting guard Monta Ellis became an unrestricted free agent yesterday, when he decided not to exercise his player option for the final year of his contract.
-- The Minnesota Wild re-signed defenseman Marco Scandella to a two-year contract Monday. Financial terms were not revealed.
-- Desmond Bishop will try to join his former Green Bay teammate Greg Jennings in Minnesota. The Vikings are the linebacker’s first scheduled free-agent visit today, after the Packers cut him yesterday.
