Ellsworth Keith House stood on the north side of Main Street in the area where Cal Butts’ barber shop is now located and down the block to the east. When this building burned in 1886, it was the biggest fire Ellsworth has ever seen. Bucket brigades were in charge of wetting down the neighboring buildings to keep them from burning too. The annual Variety Show/Marketplace charity event to benefit the operations of the volunteer-run Free Clinic of Pierce and St. Croix Counties is this Saturday, Nov. 12, at Meyer Middle School, 230 N. Ninth St., River Falls. Marketplace, a soup supper, silent auction, shopping and bake sale, starts at 5 p.m. The Variety Show, with comedic skits, music, songs and other performances, starts at 7 p.m. Lindsie Freeborn and Sydney Woltman perform a vocal duet from last year's Variety Show.
