Ellsworth High School career fair to give area students ideas of futures

Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce members Thursday got another preview of this fall's local high school career fair.

The EHS Career Expo 2010 will be held at the Pierce County Fairgrounds in Ellsworth on Friday, Sept. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Special Education Teacher Jason Haugley said the fair will emphasize postsecondary opportunities for students.

"It's modeled after an event in Eau Claire put on by Workforce Resource," Haugley said, later adding local organizers wondered why it couldn't be done here in Pierce County, mindful they were only able to take 30-40 students to the Eau Claire version.

Technical colleges and others will have booths set up, at which area students can get some firsthand experiences, he said. For example, they might try welding, which many may have never done. There could be a squad car on display, an exhibit by a mason or bricklayer, or one from a cosmetologist.

"When they ask themselves, 'what can I do for a job?' they'll be getting the information direct from people in the industry," he said.
