Sen. Vinehout to speak at Flyway Film Festival opening Thursday

Sen. Kathleen Vinehout will speak at the opening of the Flyway Film Festival 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17 at Villa Bellezza, a new Mediterranenan-style villa and winery in Pepin.

Vinehout, an ardent supporter of the arts in Wisconsin, will make opening remarks before the keynote speech and awards ceremony.

Emily Best, CEO and founder of Seed and Spark, a San Francisco-based company, will  deliver the keynote speech. Seed and Spark is a cutting-edge platform for crowd funding, distribution, and interaction for independent filmmakers.

Flyway Film Festival Director Rick Vaicius will present the awards for best films and accomplishments in several categories. Each winning filmmaker will take home a "Flyway Axe" award designed by David Culver, a nationally-recognized artist living in Bay City. Live music follows the award ceremony. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

The 2013 Flyway Film Festival runs October 17-20 in Pepin and Stockholm. Over 50 national and international independent films will be shown in two venues, with many filmmakers and industry professionals in attendance to interact with audiences via question and answer and networking events.
