'Quilters' production tells tales of hardships, humor

SPRING VALLEY -- “Quilters,” the story of a mother and her six daughters, will be performed in late May and early June at the Spring Valley Stagehands Theater in Spring Valley.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, May 30 and 31 and June 6 and 7, and at 2 p.m. Sundays, June 1 and 8.

The story of this family’s migration across the country includes living in a dugout and through twisters and drought. The women tell of courtship, marriage and having babies and lots of life in between events, some controversial and many humorous.

The players tell the stories by transforming themselves into different characters in each scene. Every actress plays several parts. There are many songs, harmonies and dancing as the scenes are played, featuring the quilting patterns in Sarah's "Legacy Quilt."

The part of Sarah is played by Mary C. Anderson, Spring Valley. The parts of the daughters are played by Ann Turner, Spring Valley; Ellen Rominski, Woodville; Julie Knutson, Ellsworth; Kathleen Brown, Elmwood; Shelli Wood, Spring Valley; and Tara Huebel, Spring Valley.

The Spring Valley Quilt Club will display quilts at the Spring Valley Community Center before and after performances. Tickets available at:
