Fun's not alien to UFO Days this weekend

ELMWOOD—Visitors landing in Elmwood this weekend have an otherworldly treat in store.

The annual UFO Days celebration will be going on for earthlings and aliens alike. They can parks their vehicles or flying saucers, as the case may be, and enjoy three days’ worth of human fun with an outer space theme.

Following is the schedule for this Friday through Sunday (all weekend, a petting zoo will operate behind The Shack).


Community Thrift Sales are first up Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but also happen Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at the same times. Maps will be available Thursday morning at local businesses and the public library.

The Prayers for Emma Jean Benefit will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. The Elmwood Rod and Gun Club will host this event.

At 6 p.m. Friday, food and beer tents open, featuring chicken. They resume all day Saturday and close Sunday at 6 p.m.

A $100 reward is promised to the winner of the UFO Medallion Hunt, set for 7 p.m. Friday. Clues will be posted at the souvenir stand then, plus Saturday at 9 a.m., 1 and 5 p.m. The Elmwood Community Club sponsors the hunt.

The upstairs of the Elmwood Auditorium is the place for the Miss Elmwood Queen Coronation Friday at 7:30 p.m. The announcement of the Miss Elmwood 2014 Queen and Court will be made following the coronation, along with announcing the Grand Marshals of UFO Days. Coronation chairpersons are Amy Bechel and Missy Roatch.

Friday’s finale has “Nail Drivers” providing music for a street dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday.
