SV Stagehands to present "The Real Inspector Hound" this weekend
SPRING VALLEY -- Murder mysteries have been around since 1829 and became popular largely when Arthur Conan Doyle began writing stories about Sherlock Holmes. The ‘whodunit’ style murder mystery did not find popularity until nearly 100 years later, with the writings of Agatha Christie. These stories have inspired Tom Stoppard’s play ‘The Real Inspector Hound’ to be performed by the SV Stagehands August 7th-10th.
The play is about two theatre critics as they provide commentary on a traditional ‘whodunit’ style play in which a stranger has entered Muldoon Manor, a strangely isolated country house. A dead body is found, but things get stranger. The two unsuspecting critics soon find themselves trapped in the very play they were watching and must find out who the murderer is before they wind up dead.
Tickets are $12 and also include pre- and post-show festivities to help raise money for new stage lights for the theatre. Before the show starts, the cast will be greeting audience members at the community center with appetizers, a cash bar, and basket raffles—take this opportunity to learn about the characters before the play even begins! Themed baskets have been donated by community members and include goodies such as a coffee basket, a wine basket, a back-to-school basket, and more! You can buy one raffle ticket for $2 or a whole arm’s length for $10 and may use the tickets to bid on any basket you’d like! There will also be a 50/50 raffle where half of the money collected will go to one lucky winner and the other half will go towards new stage lights. Once the show is about to begin, the cast will lead the audience right to the theatre (just two doors down!) to take their seats.
After the show, the raffle winners will be announced at the community center and the cast will be there to chat about the show over dessert bars, coffee, and drinks.
Not only will it be a fun evening out, this show is a great opportunity for community members to get involved with the Stagehands. Over the past 30 years, the Stagehands have made various improvements to the theatre including adding more area to the stage, recovering the seats, and installing a new heating and cooling system—all with the help of community donations and
