Bethany Mazur always called 9-year-old Travis Anderson her "little buddy." Mazur was killed in a car accident last summer in Polk County, but her mother, Kim, is carrying on her memory through a scholarship fund for special needs children. Rene Sailer led the Elmwood St. Patrick’s Day parade as grand marshal with her fellow passengers on Saturday, March 19. The parade is a tradition re-engergized by sisters Sandy Wohler, Mary Sailer, Betty Cotts and Deb Crownhart, who revived the green march down Main Street a few years ago. The tradition was originally started by their mother. Families carrying their “coats of arms” partake, as well as green bedecked and bejeweled “Irish for a day” participants. An Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing party was held at Zion Covenant Church Wednesday, Nov. 4. The children packed 82 shoebox gifts with items such as school supplies, toothbrushes, soap, washcloths, combs, socks, toys, candy and a note with a picture of themselves. Last year we heard back by e-mail from five children in Tanzania who received a shoebox sent from our group. (Submitted photo)
