The Friends of Freedom Park announce a “Star Watch Party” with WCCO Meteorologist Mike Lynch to be held at the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center at Freedom Park in Prescott 7-9 p.m., Thursday, March 6.

Mike Lynch encourages everyone to “Make the Stars Your Old Friends” during his program filled with stories and celestial folklore inspired by the nighttime skies.  An indoor orientation is followed by  time outside under the heavens where Lynch will use his large reflecting telescopes (including 20 inch reflectors, among the biggest mobile telescopes in the region, to allow guests close-up views of star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and other wonders in the winter/spring skies.

Guests will receive a handout package with user-friendly star maps and constellation charts, a telescope-buying guide and more.  Bring a lawn chair and dress for the outside weather to stay comfortable for stargazing.  Reservations required for the indoor portion of the program from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Friends of Freedom Park, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, supports the operations and educational programs of the Great River Road Learning Center (200 Monroe St., Prescott, WI 54021) through membership, volunteer recruitment and fundraising. The center is one of 62 Interpretive centers on the Great River Road and has had over 121,000 visitors and 20,000 people participate in its programs and events since opening in May 2006.  More information can be found at
