Ellsworth Fire Department to hold parade, open house Sunday

The Ellsworth Fire Department’s 2014 Community Parade will be held this Sunday.

The registration table will open at 11 a.m. next to the former junior high school in Ellsworth, according to organizer Tom Bjork. Participants will be assigned their numbers there. Units will line up near the former school at S. Grant and Woodworth streets.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. The route will go north on Grant Street to the southeast entrance of The Highlands subdivision on the village’s north side.

Over 100 units participated last year. Invitations and parade forms were sent out this year and organizers had already received responses from approximately 50 units as of last week.

Awards will be given to the top three units for the “People’s Choice” contest. A panel of judges, comprised by wives of some of the fire department members, will determine the winners. The chosen units will be announced from a station to be set up along the parade route near Hill Funeral Home.

Participants will be able to register right up until parade time on Sunday. For more information, call Bjork at (715) 273-1425.

The public is invited to an open house at the fire hall immediately after the parade.
