Hancock Lodge #229 and the Order of the Eastern Star #116 held their annual recognition banquet at the Ellsworth Masonic Center May 14.

The event is held each year to recognize members for outstanding service to their respective service organizations.

Junior Warden Mike McCarthy of Ellsworth was the chairman of this year's event and master of ceremonies. During the social hour, the St. Croix Chordsmen Chorus entertained.

Following the banquet provided by Clifford's Catering of Maiden Rock, the evening's festivities began when Kris Webster, the Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter #116, paid tribute to Wanda Johnson and Rollin Brown, who died this year.

McCarthy remembered John Marklevitz and asked the audience to give them all a moment of silence.

Several Star members who had achieved landmarks in membership were recognized. Emma Lou Hovde, Vera Eaton and June Thomas have all been members for 50 years. Charlotte Krause and Bea Steltzner were honored as 65-year members. Among the Masons, Doc Jonas was recognized for 40 years as a member and Allan Krause, for the 50-year mark.

Dean and Myrna Melby were introduced and recognized as they marked their 55-year wedding anniversary.

Kris Webster took the podium to announce the Eastern Stars Shining Star award. In making the presentation to Noreen Falde of Ellsworth, Webster said Falde has organized the Singing Stars to cheer members who are no longer able to make it to chapter meetings.

Mike McCarthy and Gary Waltz presented the Mason of the Year award to Charlie Webster of Ellsworth. In making the presentation, it was noted that Webster has done so much for the craft since becoming a Master Mason, from serving as Worshipful Master to degree work and always being ready to step up to do volunteer work.
