Horse inspires Pierce County author's first book

Animals sometimes seem better able to understand people than other people do.

They developed a relationship so close the horse literally ate the same foods she did, including Starburst and Skittles candy, she said. He'd also drink Diet Pepsi directly from the can. She called the animal her "best friend."
