Matzek eyes Pharmacy career after EHS

Rebecca Matzek has always been interested in Science. The question for a long time was what field she would study after graduating from Ellsworth High School.

Anatomy was an option.

"Blood, guts, yucky," was her description after taking an Anatomy class. The 2013 salutatorian then looked into pharmacy and the puzzle became a whole lot clearer.

"I had an opportunity to shadow my Aunt who works for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester in their pharmacy and it clinched it," she explained. "This was definitely what I wanted to do."

Matzek starts her pursuit of a pharmacy degree this fall, but first, comes Graduation, 7 p.m., next Friday at the Ellsworth High School gymnasium.

She was drawn to UW-Madison, initially, but plans changed when she took a tour of South Dakota State University in Brookings.

"I loved the atmosphere and they've got a great pharmacy program," she said. "Plus, (Brookings) is the size of Hudson, so it's a small campus."
