The Phipps Dance Company is preparing for its eighth annual performances on Friday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at The Phipps Center for the Arts.

The 2012-13 company is comprised of 13 auditioned dancers who range in age from 13 to 18. It is led by artistic directors Barb Suick and Stephanie Campbell.

Included in the versatile concert this year are modern, ballet, hip-hop, tap and Bollywood selections. The concert will showcase works by four guest choreographers: Jocelyn Gorham, Mackenzie Lewis, Bre Poliak, and Kyra Scanlan, in addition to pieces set by Suick and Campbell.

Suick is using music ranging from African drumming and percussion by GrooveCamp to an orchestral arrangement by local artist Alex Kaufman to explore nonverbal communication. Sounds of pain, pleasure, and fear are revealed in the three movements.

Campbell's piece is loosely based on the "Sleeping Beauty" fairy tale with music by Vitamin String Quartet and Kronos Quartet.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for all students. Reservations may be made by contacting The Phipps ticket office at (715) 386-8409 or online at The Phipps.
