Prescott's Filkins' wrestles back to take third place

Coaches Jeff Poliak and Paul Johnson discuss strategy to Jake Filkins during his third place match.

MADISON - Despite an injured shoulder, Prescott's Jake Filkins bravely and quite intelligently wrestled his way to a third place finish at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Meet Saturday afternoon.

Filkins reportedly tore his rotator cuff on his left arm in the Division 2, 189-pound semifinal against Josh Mohr.

But that didn't stop him from decisioning Nick Patchen of Evansville-Albany 12-6 in the consolation wrestlebacks. Then he scored a late takedown against Oconto's Ben Reuchel to break a 3-3 tie with :07 to go and win the bronze medal with a 5-4 decision.

Last year Filkins placed fourth at state. He completes his senior year with a 37-1 record.
